Editorial Illustration:
SMFA + Tufts BME

These two illustrations were made for a collaboration program between the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) and the Tufts Biomedical Engineering school (Tufts BME).
I worked with the Iyer Lab and the Quinn Lab at Tufts to translate their scientific studies into illustrations, of which they will submit to scientific journals as potential journal covers.

Iyer Lab - NMP Culturing

This lab was working on the culturing of neuromesodermal progenitor cells, which is a type of stem cell.
The study's focus is on the "balancing act" of two proteins that determines the cell fates (CNS lineages, PNS lineages, and presometic mesoderm lineages).

Quinn Lab - Virtual Staining

The Quinn lab was working with the application of multiphoton microscopy on the inspection of chronic wounds. The specific study this illustration was based on is an AI model that generates virtual H&E staining imagery (pink & purple) from multiphoton microscopy imagery (RGB).
The illustration highlights the inner workings of this AI model called a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN).

Reply to Mom

Mom used a generative AI application to animate an old photo.

The man holding me is my biological father who passed away in an accident when I was five months old.

This was an instance where my anti-AI sentiments came into conflict with Mom's genuine expression, so I made this animation combining hand-drawn animation and the generated video as a response to that conflict.
